Pay anyone, instantly. Owned by credit unions.
SmarterPay is a person to person payments network built and owned by credit unions. Verified @handles show who you are paying before you pay, scams are stopped before money leaves, and payments settle in seconds on FedNow and RTP at a fraction of the cost.
Cheaper. Safer. Ours.
Person to person payments are table stakes for every credit union. SmarterPay lets credit unions offer them together, on rails they control, without paying a margin to a network owned by someone else.
Cheaper by design
Payments settle straight on FedNow and RTP, and payments between members of the same credit union are free book transfers. Run at cost by a CUSO, not for profit.
Built to stop scams
Most losses come from scams members are talked into. SmarterPay interrupts them: verified names, purchase protection, cooling periods, and one shared list of reported accounts.
Owned by credit unions
The directory, the rulebook, and the software belong to the credit unions in the network, governed by a board designed with seats reserved for smaller credit unions.
See who you are paying. Before you pay.
Every @handle belongs to a member whose identity their credit union has verified. The sender sees the real name, the credit union, and how long they have been a member.
- One handle per person, owned by the member, kept if they move credit unions
- Pay by handle, phone, or email; the directory never shares account numbers
- Settles in seconds on FedNow or RTP between credit unions, free within one
- Pay anyone: people outside the network get a secure link to deposit into any US bank
- Request to pay, so buyers approve the amount instead of pushing money blind
- Closed handles are locked for a year so no one can take over a trusted name
Your credit union, the IRS, and the police will never ask you to move money. This payment was stopped.
Scams interrupted, not just detected.
When one credit union reports a scammer, every credit union in the network stops paying them. Members get the warning at the moment it matters.
- Network risk exchange: one report blocks a handle or account network wide
- Buying something? Purchases go through request to pay with protection
- Impostor scripts: warnings when the payment looks like a bank, IRS, or police scam
- First payments to someone new are capped, with a short cooling period you can cancel
- Receiving credit unions freeze reported funds, and frozen money goes back to the victim
- Clear liability rules: the credit union that lets a flagged mule receive money shares the loss
SmarterPayment: one hub for every rail.
SmarterPay runs on SmarterPayment, a payments hub any credit union can use on its own or natively inside SmartiFI. It routes every payment to the cheapest rail that reaches the receiver at the speed it needs.
Immutable ledger
Double entry and append only. Every entry is hash chained, the database refuses edits, and corrections are reversing entries.
Coreless, core capable
Runs on its own books, posts natively to SmartiFI, or sends a daily file to an existing core. No core conversion required to join.
Always on
Redundant API nodes and workers, a standby database, and a transactional outbox so no payment message is ever lost.
Agents do the work. People stay at the wheel.
Payments operations run with AI agent teammates that start out proposing and earn autonomy over time. Limits are fixed in code, and a stop switch halts any agent at once. With SmartiFI, they appear in its Agent Control Center.
Retries stuck rail messages and reminds people to claim money before a link expires. Never moves money.
Spots mule accounts across the network, proposes flags and freezes, and returns frozen funds to scam victims.
Verifies the hash chained ledger and signs post quantum checkpoints of its history.
Safe from tomorrow's computers, today.
Payment networks live for decades. SmarterPay signs and encrypts with algorithms built to resist quantum computers from day one.
- ML-DSA-65 signatures on every request, response, and rail message
- Hybrid ML-KEM key exchange on every connection
- Signed checkpoints prove the ledger's history has not changed
- No shared API secrets: the hub keeps only public keys
